Derry Township School District Woodshop: Embracing Change for Student Safety

As we strive to provide the best possible education for every child, every day, we are grateful for the support and involvement of our volunteers in the Derry Township School District woodshop. As we continue to work together towards this goal, it is essential that we adapt to changing circumstances and regulations to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

At DTSD, our mission and vision are centered around serving the needs of every child. To achieve this, we require a strong partnership between teachers, staff, and volunteers like you. As a school volunteer, your involvement goes beyond simply lending a hand in class. We appreciate those who are willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities.

However, with these increased expectations comes the need for additional training and certifications. In compliance with state regulations, all DTSD volunteers must undergo Mandated Reporter training approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and provide proof of successful completion every 60 months (5 years). Additionally, you will be required to have a Tuberculosis (TB) test and submit the official results to the school district before working with students.

Furthermore, recent legislative changes have introduced new requirements for checking the background of those in contact with students. Act 44, 45, and 153 of 2014 have led to updated school board policies aimed at ensuring student safety. As a volunteer, you will be required to provide updated certifications every 60 months (5 years).

We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience, but we assure you that they are necessary measures to guarantee the continued safety of our students. We appreciate your cooperation and commitment to upholding these new standards.
